Messi, Neymar booed by PSG fans during Bordeaux home game
Paris, Mar 13 (EFE).- Lionel Messi and Neymar were subjected to boos and whistles from Paris Saint-Germain fans during the team’s home game against Bordeaux on Sunday just days after the French club exited the Champions League in dramatic fashion at the hands of Real Madrid.
A section of the PSG home crowd booed all of the team’s players as the names were read out before the match, apart from Kylian Mbappé, who was applauded.
After kick-off, the jeers continued every time Messi or Neymar touched the ball.
The crowd reaction came following a harsh statement from the Collectif Ultras Paris, a hardcore section of PSG fandom, which demanded the departure of the club owner, Qatari Nasser Al-Khelafi.
Since taking over in 2011, Al-Khelaifi has invested some 1.4 billion euros in signing world-class players like Neymar and most recently Messi. The Ligue 1 club has failed to win a Champions League trophy in that time.
PSG won the encounter on Sunday 3-0, with goals from Mbappé, Neymar and Leandro Paredes.EFE
