Formula One will return to Las Vegas in 2023

Madrid, Mar 31 (EFE).- Formula One will return to Las Vegas in 2023 after 41 years with a night race in November on a 6,120-meter street circuit with 14 curves reaching a maximum speed of 342 kmph over 50 laps, motorsport authorities announced in a Thursday statement.

With the addition of the Las Vegas Strip race, between hotels and casinos, the United States will have three Formula One races starting next year, along with those in Miami and Austin, to expand the motorsport fanbase.

The Las Vegas race will start Saturday local time, early Sunday morning in Europe and later in Asia.

“This is an incredible moment for F1, demonstrating the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the United States,” Italian Formula One CEO and President Stefano Domenicali said in the statement.

He said Las Vegas “is a destination known around the world for its excitement, its hospitality and, of course, the famous Strip. There is no better place for Formula One than the entertainment capital of the world.”

Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), spoke of “the moment when the history, energy and momentum of Formula One culminate in an unforgettable Saturday night on the Las Vegas Strip.”

“Spectators will experience the unrivaled thrill of watching these elite drivers perform at what is sure to become one of the most iconic circuits in the world,” he said.

The last time Formula One was in Las Vegas was in 1982, at the season-ending 75-lap race around Caesar Palace. The winner was the Italian Michele Alboreto (Tyrrel-Ford), who took his first victory on the circuit. EFE
