Messi leads Inter Miami to first-ever Leagues Cup final

Sports Desk, US, Aug 15 (EFE).- Lionel Messi led Inter Miami to its first-ever Leagues Cup final with a resounding 4-1 win against the Philadelphia Union on Tuesday.
Messi scored his ninth goal in six games for Inter Miami, which hasn’t lost a match since the Argentinian icon debuted in the Leagues Cup on July 21.
The team will face the winner of the semifinal between Nashville and Monterrey in Saturday’s final.
Seventeen minutes after opening the scoring for Inter Miami, Josef Martinez passed the ball to Messi, who produced a piercing low long-range shot that shot past the Union goalkeeper Andre Blake to find the back of the net.
Another goal by Jordi Alba left the Florida team with a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.
The Union’s only goal was scored by Alejandro Bedoya in the 73rd minute before David Ruiz found the net for Miami again 11 minutes later.
With the win, Inter Miami also qualified for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup. EFE
