Brazilian Eduardo Kobra’s street art to be displayed at UN headquarters
United Nations, Sep 14 (EFE).- A large mural by world-renowned Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra will be on display for the next three months at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, where world leaders will gather starting next week for the General Assembly meeting.
The colorful work is a donation by Brazil’s permanent mission to the international body on the 200th anniversary of the South American giant, and it is being installed on the facade of one of the UN complex’s most visible buildings on the eastern shore of Manhattan Island.
The subject of the mural is sustainable development and, in particular, the concept of responding to the needs of the present without jeopardizing the planet’s ability to support sustainable development in the future, as UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric explained to journalists.
The work of art, which was still being completed on Wednesday, shows a man and a girl holding up a globe with South America visible in the center and surrounded by the universal recycling symbol.
Kobra is one of the best-known street artists on the international level and his works, which usually have a social character, can be seen numerous cities around the world, including – of course – in Brazil.
The artist has already created several large murals in New York dealing with issues such as immigration, paying homage to the firefighters who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 and recalling historical figures in art and music.
