Mexican president makes public appearance after recovering from Covid-19

Mexico, Feb 8 (efe-epa).- Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador resumed public duties on Monday following two weeks of isolation after contracting Covid-19.

“We are here to continue fighting. I want to also thank many friends abroad and everyone in Mexico: the women and the men that expressed their desire for me to recover well,” he said during a press conference at the National Palace, his official residence.

Obrador first announced he had tested positive for Covid-19 on 24 January. Health authorities said the politician was “practically asymptomatic” but kept the details of his clinical state under wraps.

The silence of the leftist leader, who usually dominates the news agenda with his messages on social networks, raised concerns for his health and questions about the government’s opacity. EFE-EPA
