WhatsApp messaging service recovers from two-hour global outage

(Update 1: Adds detail on recovery)

Madrid, Oct 25 (EFE).- Instant messaging app WhatsApp on Tuesday suffered a roughly two-hour global outage.

Its slow recovery was reflected by tracking websites Downdetector, which had earlier logged a surge in outage reports starting from around 6.54 GMT.

The cause of the outage, which saw users suffer issues in sending and receiving messages, has not yet been given.

WhatsApp, which together with Instagram and Facebook is owned by Meta, has some 2 billion users worldwide.

In many countries it is more commonly used than messaging services such as SMS.

The app can also be used to make phone and video calls, as well as group chats. EFE
