Another milestone for Haaland as Man City down Leeds 3-1

Sports Desk, Dec 28 (EFE).- Erling Haaland had a brace Wednesday for Manchester City in a 3-1 victory over Leeds United, boosting his Premier League goal tally to 20 in 14 matches, a new record.

The Norwegian striker’s father, former Leeds player Alfie Haaland, was in the stands at Elland Road to enjoy the spectacle of Erling’s return to the city where he was born 22 years ago.

City, the defending champions, reclaimed second place with 35 points, 3 better than Newcastle United and 5 off the pace of leaders Arsenal.

Leeds are 15th in the table on 15 points.

As expected, City dominated possession – 69 percent – and fired 9 shots on target to just one for the hosts. But the score was still 0-0 heading into first-half stoppage time, as Leeds keeper Illan Meslier denied Haaland twice and Ilkay Gundogan on one occasion, while Jack Grealish squandered a pair of opportunities.

Just before the break, Rodri was in the right place to score on the rebound after Meslier made an initial stop against Riyad Mahrez.

Haaland, assisted by Grealish, doubled the advantage for the visitors just six minutes into the second half. The Norwegian made it 3-0 in the 64th with his 26th goal in 20 appearances since joining City over the summer.

Grealish picked up his second assist of the night.

City looked set to cruise to a result until Pascal Struijk pulled back a goal for the hosts in the 73rd minute. Meslier made saves against Kevin de Bruyne and Haaland to preserve a slim chance for Leeds, who failed to put another ball past Ederson. EFE
