Eriksen thanks fans for support after cardiac arrest

Sports Desk, Jun 15 (EFE).- Christian Eriksen on Tuesday thanked supporters for their influx of messages after he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland in Copenhagen.

“Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family,” Eriksen said in a social media post from his hospital bed.

“I’m fine — under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital but I feel okay.”

He added: “Now I will cheer on the boys in the Denmark team in the next matches. Play all for Denmark.”

Erisken collapsed on the pitch in the 42nd minute of Denmark’s group stage game against Finland on June 12.

Medical staff used CPR and a defibrillator to restart his heart as the rest of his teammates formed a circle around him to block the view of the cameras. His sudden collapse from cardiac arrest, as medics later confirmed, shocked spectators around the world.

Unlikely to play football at a professional level again, Eriksen has played for Inter Milan since last year following a seven-year spell at Tottenham Hotspur, where he was a stalwart figure in the first team. EFE
