Russia, China underline close relations despite Ukraine war

Beijing, Mar 30 (EFE).- Relations between China and Russia have weathered international developments and there is a strong willingness to continue joint projects and support negotiations to de-escalate the war in Ukraine, China’s foreign minister Wang Yi said Wednesday following a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

“Relations between China and Russia have resisted the test of changes in the international situation,” Yang said following the encounter in the western Chinese city of Anhui.

“They have maintained the correct course and demonstrated a tenacious impetus for development.

Wang added: “We support Russia and Ukraine in continuing peace talks despite the difficulties and we welcome the positive results reached so far in the negotiations and hope the situation on the ground settles as quickly as possible,” he added, according to the foreign ministry.

Lavrov insisted his country was committed to de-escalating “tensions” in Ukraine, adding that Russia’s relationship with China was stable.

Both Moscow and Beijing were committed to multilateralism.

Lavrov was in China to take part in a conference on Afghanistan along with representatives of Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Taliban diplomat Amir Khan Muttaqi.EFE
