Mexican Consul Rodolfo Quilantán-Arenas Congratulates La Prensa Latina on their 25th Anniversary

Dear readers:

With joy I learn of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of La Prensa Latina.

For two and a half decades, La Prensa Latina has carried out an intense, arduous, and professional labor in informing, educating, and providing useful information to the Hispanic community in West Tennessee and East Arkansas, for their better insertion in the way of life of the American society.

As you know, the role of the media is sensitive and delicate. One of the main principles of the media is to report impartially, that is, to transmit the information in an honest, objective, fair and without any personal prejudice.

As experts say, credibility is the greatest asset of any media outlet and fairness is the greatest source of credibility.

La Prensa Latina has fulfilled its mission. La Prensa Latina represents credibility and impartiality. This has been demonstrated during its first twenty-five years of existence.

But, in addition to that, I must say that La Prensa Latina has testified to its interest in educating our Hispanic community on a wide range of topics, in particular, on the importance of respecting orders, customs and American laws and, above all, to honor the country that has allowed them to improve their standard of living, where their children were born and where they have planted roots to forge a binational identity with a great impact on the economic life of the United States.

In this month that we celebrate the Heritage of the Immigrant, Mexicans and Hispanics are today the driving force of the U.S. economy. We make up 48% of the immigrant labor force in the country, we contribute 2.3 billion dollars to the Gross Domestic Product and Mexicans and Mexican Americans represent 57% of the purchasing power of Hispanics.

Additionally, La Prensa Latina’s interest in empowerment, education, health, financial education, culture, sports, and other community issues has been notable.

In this sense, on my own behalf and on behalf of the Consulate of Mexico in Little Rock, I extend my congratulations to La Prensa Latina, to all its collaborators, in its first quarter of a century of existence, and I fully acknowledge the outstanding role it has in the integral development of the Mexican and Hispanic community in the region.

Congratulations!

ESPAÑOL:

Estimados lectores:

¡Felicidades!

Rodolfo Quilantán-Arenas

Cónsul de México en Little Rock
