Goalkeeper gets last-second equalizer for Sevilla against Valladolid

Sports Desk, Mar 20 (efe-epa).- Sevilla’s Yassine Bono became the first goalkeeper since February 2011 to score from open play in LaLiga when he produced an equalizer in the dying seconds of stoppage time Saturday to salvage a point against Valladolid.

“It’s incredible, it’s difficult to describe and I didn’t know how to celebrate,” the Moroccan said afterward. “You do your job in your own goal and it’s very strange to see yourself up in the other box.”

With the draw, fourth-place Sevilla improve to 55 points, 10 ahead of Real Sociedad, who face Barcelona on Sunday.

Valladolid, meanwhile, missed a chance to vault from 16th to 14th and they remain just 4 points above the drop zone.

The visitors, who would end the match with 69 percent possession, started aggressively and Papu Gomez tested Valladolid keeper Roberto in the 5th minute.

Valladolid played with poise, alert for openings to go forward with pace into the spaces Sevilla was leaving open, though Julen Lopetegui’s men kept their shape at the back.

The home side’s commitment eventually paid off, as Shon Weissman drew a foul from Diego Carlos in the area, prompting a VAR review that led to a penalty for Valladolid in the 44th minute.

Fabian Orellana stepped to the spot and converted to put the hosts up 1-0 at the break.

Valladolid played with greater confidence in the second half, forcing Lopetegui turn to his bench, sending in Luuk de Jong and Ivan Rakitic for the final 20 minutes.

Lucas Ocampos sent a cross to De Jong in a dangerous position as the end of regulation approached, but the Dutchman’s shot hit the post and it was left to Bono to save the day for Sevilla. EFE mim/dr
