Beijing condemns US sanctions on Chinese firms with alleged Russia ties

Beijing, Feb 27 (EFE).- China on Monday strongly criticized the United States’ decision to add some Chinese firms to its exports black list – banning them from purchasing articles such as semiconductors built in the US and accessing American technology – over their alleged links to Russia.

“We deplore and reject the move,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said, adding that China would take “resolute countermeasures” to protect the “legitimate” rights and interests of Chinese firms.

On Friday, the White House had announced the inclusion of 90 firms – including 79 registered in Russia – to the department of commerce blacklist due to their alleged activities to support the Russian defense sector and evade sanctions.

The sanctioned Chinese companies include Spacety Company and China Head Aerospace Technology, which are active in the satellite technology sector, along with their subsidiaries in other countries.

Chinese state broadcaster CGTN quoted Mao as saying that Washington’s actions had no basis in international law and were not authorized by the United Nations Security Council.

The spokesperson added that Beijing had voiced its unhappiness over the decision to the US through diplomatic channels.

China has maintained an ambiguous position towards the Ukraine war, calling for respecting Ukraine’s territorial integrity while also backing Russia’s “legitimate security concerns.”

The Asian giant has opposed the sanctions imposed against Moscow by the US and its allies. EFE
