Spain, Portugal PMs meet for bilateral summit

Viana do Castelo, Portugal, Nov 4 (EFE).- Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez, and his Portuguese counterpart António Costa met Friday for the 33rd bilateral summit with a walk through the streets of Viana do Castelo in northern Portugal.

Prior to the start of the summit, Sánchez and Costa visited the Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, located in Braga, where they toured its facilities and met with the center’s workers.

This visit was intended to symbolize Spain and Portugal’s commitment to innovation, a central issue in this year’s meeting between their two governments.

From Braga, where they were accompanied by their respective Ministers of Science, Sánchez and Costa traveled to Viana do Castelo, where the rest of their respective delegations were already waiting to begin the summit.

The event began with a welcoming ceremony with military honors before Sanchez and Costa walked through the center of the city, greeting the many people who had gathered in the streets and visited the Costume Museum.

During the summit, Spain and Portugal intend to strengthen their alliance to pressure the European Union to take action on energy issues such as the reform of the electricity market and promoting interconnectors. EFE
