MPD Officer Shot on Hickory Hill

Oficial de MPD herido por arma de fuego en Hickory Hill

MEMPHIS, TN (WREG/WMC) — A Memphis Police officer is in stable condition after being shot while responding to a domestic violence call in Hickory Hill.

It was just before 2 p.m. when MPD officers responded to a domestic violence call at The Parks Apartment complex in Hickory Hill.

“When officers made the scene, they were attempting to take the suspect into custody that’s when the suspect fired a shot in and struck one of our officers,” said MPD Major Karen Rudolph.

Officials say while taking that officer to Regional One for their critical injuries, police arrested the suspect.

Mayor Jim Strickland also tweeted out his support, saying, “Today serves as a constant reminder that each time our officers put on the uniform, they’re risking their lives to protect and serve us; they are certainly heroes. We thank the officer for his service and pray for a speedy recovery.”

Giorgio Minnis, 34, has been named as the man responsible for shooting a Memphis police officer on duty.

Another officer applied aid to the injured officer until paramedics arrived. The injured officer was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police said the officer is now stable.

Minnis has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, employment of a firearm, theft of property and two counts of aggravated assault.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/WREG/WMC) — Un oficial de policía de Memphis ya se encuentra en estado estable luego de recibir un disparo mientras respondía a una llamada de violencia doméstica en Hickory Hill.

Fue justo antes de las 2 p.m. cuando los oficiales de MPD respondieron a una llamada de violencia doméstica en el complejo The Parks Apartment en Hickory Hill.

“Cuando los oficiales llegaron a la escena, estaban tratando de detener al sospechoso, fue entonces cuando el sospechoso disparó e hirió a uno de nuestros oficiales”, dijo la mayor Karen Rudolph de MPD.

El alcalde Jim Strickland también tuiteó su apoyo y dijo: “Hoy sirve como un recordatorio constante de que cada vez que nuestros oficiales se ponen el uniforme, arriesgan sus vidas para protegernos y servirnos; sin duda son héroes. Agradecemos al oficial por su servicio y rezamos por una pronta recuperación”.

Giorgio Minnis, de 34 años, ha sido nombrado como el hombre responsable de dispararle a un oficial de policía de Memphis en servicio.

Otro oficial aplicó ayuda al oficial lesionado hasta que llegaron los paramédicos. El oficial lesionado fue trasladado al hospital en estado crítico. La policía dijo que el oficial ahora está estable.

Minnis ha sido acusado de intento de asesinato en primer grado, secuestro agravado, peligro imprudente con un arma mortal, delincuente convicto en posesión de un arma de fuego, uso de un arma de fuego, robo de propiedad y dos cargos de asalto agravado.
