Vaccination plan enters a new stage in England

London, Feb 15 (efe-epa).- England’s Covid-19 jab rollout entered a new stage Monday as authorities began administering vaccines to people over 65 and the clinically vulnerable.

More than 15 million people had already been given the first dose of the vaccine in the UK.

Health authorities established an initial phase in the rollout made up of nine groups considered to be the most vulnerable to Covid-19. The focus of the rollout has now shifted to the over-65s and people aged between 16-65 who are clinically at-risk.

Health secretary Matt Hancock told Sky News on Monday that there is still no data available on exactly when the impact of the vaccination program on the reduction of serious illnesses and deaths from Covid-19 will be felt.

“Data shows that the number of deaths is decreasing and has been decreasing for a few weeks. It is premature to say whether this is directly related to the vaccination program,” the minister said. EFE
