Russia attacks Odessa for 3rd time in 3 days after grain deal collapse

Kiev, Jul 20 (EFE).- Russia attacked the Ukrainian city of Odesa for the third consecutive night, damaging buildings and injuring at least four people, the Ukrainian army’s southern command Spokeswoman Natalia Gumeniuk said Thursday in the national television news service.

The attack hit the city center and destroyed an administrative building, Gumeniuk said, adding that the shock wave caused damage to other civilian buildings in the area.

In the early hours of Tuesday and Wednesday, Russia had directed its drones and missiles against the port of Odessa, after announcing its withdrawal Monday from an agreement that allowed the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.

Russia also attacked the Mikolayiv Oblast in the eastern Odessa region Wednesday night, damaging homes. Eighteen people were injured in Mykolayiv due to the attack, nine of whom have been hospitalized.

According to the Odessa Region Military Administration, last night’s Russian attack caused a 300-square-meter fire in the city of Odessa that firefighters are working to put out.

The Ukrainian army said the attack on Odessa was perpetrated with different missile types. The Ukrainian Air Force will provide more details in this regard in the morning.

Russia has now launched missiles and drones in Odessa for three consecutive nights, where the three Ukrainian ports are located from which Moscow promised to let grain ships leave within the framework of the agreement.

In the early Tuesday morning attack, Russia destroyed infrastructure in the ports of Odessa and Chornomorsk – both part of the grain deal – destroying 60,000 tons of grain bound for China.

Ukraine said Russia’s attacks on these ports are an attempt to create a global food crisis causing a massive influx of refugees to Western European countries helping Ukraine. EFE
