Musk announces only verified Twitter handles will be recommended

New York, Mar 28 (EFE).- Twitter boss Elon Musk has announced that from Apr.15, only verified accounts on the social network, obtained by paying a fee, will be recommended to other users.

Musk published a tweet on Tuesday announcing these new measures that involve a reorganization of the so-called “Twitter Blue,” or verified accounts marked by a “blue tick.”

“Starting April 15th, only verified accounts will be eligible to be in For You recommendations,” tweeted Musk, adding this was “the only realistic way to address advanced AI bot swarms taking over. It is otherwise a hopeless losing battle.”

The measure, according to the entrepreneur, also implies that only verified subscribers will be able to vote in the surveys that are formulated in the popular social network.

Hence, accounts that do not pay for the blue tick will not be included in the flow of “tweets” that are recommended to other users.

Currently, Twitter users need to pay about $7 a month for the verification mark on their handles, which gives them access to additional features on the platform.

The initiative comes just two days after Musk told Twitter employees in an internal note that the company’s value had fallen to $20 billion from the $44 billion he acquired it for in October last year.

The billionaire, since taking over the social network, has reduced his staff to almost a quarter and has sold much of the furniture of its San Francisco headquarters.

The company has lost a large number of advertisers, the company’s main source of revenue, while its new paid “Twitter Blue” service does not appear to have improved things either. EFE
