Uefa draws quarter-final fixtures for revised summer tournaments

Madrid Desk, Jul 10 (efe-epa).- Manchester City or Real Madrid will play Lyon or Juventus and Napoli or Barcelona will take on either Chelsea or Bayern Munich in the quarter finals of the Uefa Champions League, according to the draw on Friday.

So far only four teams have secured a spot in the quarter-finals, which will take place as a knockout-style tournament in the Portuguese capital Lisbon.

The two confirmed fixtures will see Leipzig battle it out with Atlético Madrid and Atalanta take on Paris Saint-Germain.

Coincidentally, neither Leipzig and Atlético nor Atalanta and PSG have ever met on the pitch before.

The others are still pending the second-legs of last-16 ties, which were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Those fixtures will go ahead on 7-8 August at the club’s home ground, according to Uefa.

Juventus are looking to overturn a 0-1 away defeat at Lyon, while Barcelona are braced for Napoli following a 1-1 draw in the south of Italy.

One of the tougher fixtures, Real Madrid were due to travel to Manchester City with the task of overcoming a 1-2 home defeat while Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich were to welcome Chelsea off the back of a comfortable 0-3 away win in London.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are still tussling for the domestic title after LaLiga resumed in June following an unscheduled coronavirus break in March.

The Serie A is set to continue into the summer, too, but PSG have not played competitively since the French Ligue 1 — which they won — was called off prematurely in April.
