Barcelona “macrobotellón” lead to acts of vandalism and assaults

Barcelona, Sep 26 (EFE).- Some 30,000 young people on Saturday night participated in an open-air drinking session on the beaches of Barcelona, leading to acts of vandalism and assaults.

Some 30 people were arrested and 39 people injured, local authorities reported.

This is the third consecutive night in which thousands of youngsters have gathered to party outdoors in the Catalan city.

Barcelona police had shielded Plaza Espana to prevent more parties, but the youngsters moved the “macrobotellón” to the beach instead.

On Friday night, 40,000 people filled the central square to participate in mass brawls, leading to 22 arrests, 40 injured of which 13 were stabbed.

The mass gatherings are part of La Mercè Celebrations, a festival in honor of the patron of Barcelona. EFE
