Biden tests positive for Covid-19

(Update: adds Biden tweet)

Washington, Jul 21 (EFE).- United States president Joe Biden tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday and was experiencing mild symptoms, the White House said.

“He is fully vaccinated and twice boosted and experiencing very mild symptoms,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement, adding that the president had begun taking Paxlovid antiviral medication.

Biden will isolate at the White House until he tests negative and continue to carry out all his duties “fully” online, the statement said.

“Out of an abundance of transparency, the White House will provide a daily update on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation,” it added.

In a tweet, the president said he was “doing great” and that he was “keeping busy”.

Biden returned to the US on Saturday after a Middle East tour where he met with the leaders of Israel, Palestine and Saudi Arabia.

His last Covid test was on Tuesday, when he tested negative. EFE
