Host England hunt maiden Women’s Euro title against experienced Germany

Sports Desk, Jul 30 (EFE).- England will be out for revenge when they take on Germany in the Women’s Euro 2022 final at Wembley on Sunday.

The host nation will be hoping that third time is a charm having lost in the finals of 1984 and 2009, the latter a humiliating 6-2 defeat to Germany, an eight-time Euro champion.

“It will be an incredible final. We will be playing at Wembley in front of 80 or 90,000 people and most of them for England and against us, but we understand that and we accept the challenge,” Germany coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg said ahead of the final.

“England have been incredible in this tournament every single game for dynamism, lots of goals, and they are so incredibly confident. It will be a great football feast,” Voss-Tecklenburg added.

Both sides have had an equally strong Euro run, conceding one goal each so far.

England have scored 20 goals, including eight against Norway, compared to Germany’s 13.

“We’ve got to believe in our ability and stick to our game plan,” England forward Beth Mead said. “We’ve done that really well going through this tournament.”

“We’ve had a few rough patches — that’s football — but we’ve believed in our ability. The full 23 in this squad have been exceptional,” she added. EFE
