Russian strikes target critical infrastructure in Ukraine’s capital

Lviv, Ukraine, Oct 18 (EFE).- Authorities in the Ukrainian capital said new Russian aerial strikes targeted critical energy supply stations in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said Russian forces launched attacks on the capital’s northeastern Desnyanskyi district that hit a “critical infrastructure facility.”

Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy head of the Ukrainian president’s office, said on social media that three explosions hit a power supply facility in Kyiv on the left bank of the Dnieper River.

“Preliminary reports indicate that there were three strikes on an energy infrastructure facility on the left bank of the city,” said Tymoshenko.

Online news portal Ukrainskaya Pravda reported that some cities were left without electricity or suffered shortages of electricity supply as Russian troops “again attacked the energy infrastructure of Ukraine.”

The news website reported that Russian forces carried out the strikes in Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Zhytomyr.

Zhytomyr mayor Sergiy Sukhomlyn said on social media networks that the electricity and water supplies were affected. EFE
