Putin leads Russian Navy Day celebrations in St. Petersburg

Moscow, Jul 25 (EFE).- Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on Sunday led the 325th anniversary celebration of the Day of the Russian Navy in Saint Petersburg.

In a speech, Putin said that his country continued to successfully develop new weapons and added that the navy has all means necessary to “protect the homeland and national interests.”

He spoke of high-precision hypersonic weapons that “still have no analogues in the world and continue to be constantly perfected.”

“We are capable of detecting any enemy target underwater, on the sea surface or in the air and, if necessary, deal an irreversible blow,” underlined the Russian leader.

The navy showed off its muscle in the parade with some 4,000 military personnel, more than 50 ships, motor boats and submarines, and 48 planes and helicopters.

The navy is set to receive over 180 new ships and vessels by 2027 including the Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile, which is capable of flying at nine times the speed of sound, according to the Russian rearmament program. EFE
