Rome, May 11 (EFE).- Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal on Tuesday cast doubts over his participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics this summer due to the pandemic.
“I don’t know yet. Honestly I can’t give you a clear answer because I don’t know. I don’t know my calendar,” the 20-time Grand Slam champion said during a press conference in Rome ahead of his participation at the Italian Open.
“In a normal world, I would never think about missing Olympics, of course. There is no doubt about that.” he said.
“Under these circumstances, I don’t know. Let’s see what’s going on in the next couple of months. But I need to organize my schedule,” he added.
Nadal, 34, won the 2008 singles gold medal in Beijing and emerged victorious in the 2016 doubles competition alongside Marc Lopez.
The Olympics, which have been postponed for a year due to the pandemic, are scheduled to get underway on 23 July. EFE
