Melbourne (Australia) Feb 9 (efe-epa).- Spaniard Rafael Nadal made it through to the second round of the Australian Open after he finished off a 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 win over Serb Laslo Djere on Tuesday.

“I did a a good job today. Straight sets is what I needed,” said Nadal, the World No. 2.

Russians Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev will also head to the second round of the tournament, two days after Russia defeated Italy in the ATP teams event.

Fourth-seeded Medvedev extended his winning streak to 15 matches after he beat Canadian Vasek Pospisil 6-2, 6-2, 6-4.

World No. 8 Rublev downed German Yannick Hanfmann 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, stretching a long unbeaten run in singles. EFE-EPA
