Ukraine stops a third of Russian gas flow to Europe

Kyiv, May 10 (EFE).- The operator of Ukraine’s gas transmission pipeline on Tuesday announced that it has been forced to momentarily interrupt the transit of a third of Russian gas flowing to Europe due to “force majeure”.

“As a result of the Russian invasion, we are facing a force majeure situation at the transit point Sohranivka,” the company, GTSOU, said in a statement.

The block makes it impossible to continue transporting gas through the transit point located on the border with Russia, and the Novopskov compression station, both located in the eastern province of Lugansk and in the territory occupied by Moscow forces, the statement read.

Until now, 32.6 million cubic meters of gas passed through the station per day, which represents a third of the total Russian gas Ukraine transports to Europe, according to the GTSOU.

Due to the invasion, several of the operator’s facilities are located in territories occupied by Russia, which does not have operational or technological control over them, the statement added. EFE
