MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — El espíritu de la Navidad comienza a sentirse ya en todas partes. Por dondequiera que vamos, vemos arbolitos, adornos y luces de Navidad; la gente empieza a comprar los regalos para sus seres queridos, las reuniones en familia -y también en el trabajo- son más grandes y cada vez hay más algarabía en la calle.

Por lo mismo, hemos preparado una lista con los mejores y más importantes eventos que se estarán llevando a cabo para celebrar a lo grande estas fechas decembrinas, recordando siempre que la Navidad es una época de amor, paz, unión, gozo, reencuentros familiares, reconciliación, reflexión y agradecimiento por el nacimiento del Niño Jesús, nuestro Salvador. * CHRISTMAS AT GRACELAND: Presente – 8 de enero, 2019

¡Disfruta de la Navidad en Graceland, al estilo de Elvis!

Tanto la mansión de Graceland como los jardines están hermosamente decorados de Navidad, con todo y luces, tal y como le gustaba a Elvis.

Elvis Presley Enterprises también traerá de nuevo su espectacular “Holiday Concert Weekend at Graceland” (14 y 15 de diciembre), el cual consta de una serie de tres conciertos festivos en vivo (Christmas with Elvis with Live Orchestra; An Elvis Gospel Christmas; Elvis Live in Concert) en el Graceland Sound Stage, en el nuevo complejo de entretenimiento Elvis Presley’s Memphis de Graceland.

*SUNTRUST ZOO LIGHTS: Presente – 30 de diciembre, 2018

Lleva a toda la familia al Zoológico de Memphis de noche para saludar a Santa Claus, patinar sobre hielo y apreciar su amplia variedad de ornamentos y luces de Navidad. También podrás ver a algunos de los animales.

Cabe destacar que el “SunTrust Zoo Lights” se ha convertido en una tradición anual para las familias de Memphis. No sólo eso, ya que también es un evento que ha sido reconocido a nivel nacional por estar entre las diez mejores exposiciones de luces navideñas realizadas en un zoológico, según USA Today.

* ENCHANTED FOREST AT PINK PALACE MUSEUM: Presente – 31 de diciembre, 2018

No te puedes perder el Festival del Bosque Encantado en el Pink Palace Museum, ubicado en el 3050 Central Ave. Memphis, TN. Siendo una tradición navideña de Memphis, el Bosque Encantado está lleno de encantadores personajes animados, maquetas de trenes y decenas de árboles hermosamente decorados.

* STARRY NIGHTS: 22 de noviembre, 2018 – 28 de diciembre, 2018

Siendo el festival de luces más grande de la ciudad, “Starry Nights” o “Noche de Estrellas” se ha convertido en una tradición navideña para muchas familias del Medio Sur. La extensa exhibición de figuras iluminadas, junto con la variedad de entretenimiento que se ofrece tanto para grandes como para chicos, hace que la ocasión se preste para que todos, sin excepción alguna, sientan la magia del espíritu de la Navidad. Y este año vendrá con más sorpresas y actividades que nunca, incluyendo un camino de media milla rodeado de luces navideñas a lo largo del lago Hyde, un taller para construir un osito de peluche (Build-a-Bear Workshop), un paseo en el Tren de Bastón de Caramelo (Candy Cane Train) y, por supuesto, la visita de Santa Claus.

La Villa Mágica del Muérdago (The FedEx Mistletoe Village), ubicada en el centro de información al turista/visitante (The First Tennessee Foundation Visitor Center), también volverá a ser parte de este evento. Aquí, todos podrán tomarse sus fotos con Santa (paquetes desde los $25), ver a los animalitos del zoológico interactivo infantil, comprar recuerditos, tomar un delicioso chocolate caliente y hasta escuchar villancicos. En adición a todo esto, habrá paseos en camello y en pony, paseos en carruajes, camiones de comida, artesanías hechas por artistas locales, etc. La Villa Mágica del Muérdago (The Mistletoe Village) tendrá el mismo horario de Starry Nights, incluyendo uno diurno para los sábados y domingos: 10 AM – 4 PM.

* HOLIDAY WONDERS AT THE GARDEN: 23 de noviembre, 2018 – 30 de diciembre, 2018 (Ciertas noches solamente)

La celebración navideña de este año en el Jardín Botánico de Memphis es más grande y brillante que nunca, con cuatro atracciones en un mismo lugar: “Snowy Nights at the Garden”, “Under the Stars at the Garden”, “Trees Alight at the Garden” y “City of Memphis Christmas Tree at the Garden”.

“Snowy Nights at the Garden” (“Noches con Nieve en el Jardín”) está diseñado para brindarles a todos en la familia la oportunidad de disfrutar del clima invernal y celebrar la temporada de fiestas con exhibiciones de luces, actividades de Navidad, artesanías, comida, chocolate caliente y mucha diversión interactiva. Siempre hay “nieve” en My Big Backyard, incluso si la Madre Naturaleza no la proporciona.

“Trees Alight at the Garden” (“Árboles con Luces”) es un gran espectáculo multimedia de luces LED, de 360 grados, con música de Navidad sincronizada que tendrá lugar este año en el Iris Garden destacando hasta a los árboles más grandes del jardín botánico.

“Under the Stars at the Garden” (“Bajo las Estrellas en el Jardín”) es un lugar acogedor lleno de cómodos sofás, mesas con fogatas y todo el espíritu festivo. En apoyo a la organización de Toys-for-Tots, algunos infantes de la Marina de los Estados Unidos serán parte del desfile para recolectar juguetes nuevos y sin envolver para los niños más necesitados.

 * HANUKKAH (CHANUKAH): Hanukkah, llamada también la Fiesta de las Luces o Luminarias, es una festividad judía. Celebrada durante ocho días, conmemora la derrota de los helenos y la recuperación de la independencia judía a manos de los macabeos sobre los griegos seléucidas, y la posterior purificación del Segundo Templo de Jerusalén de los íconos paganos, en el siglo II a. C.

La tradición judía habla de un milagro, en el que pudo encenderse el candelabro del Templo durante ocho días consecutivos con una exigua cantidad de aceite que alcanzaba sólo para uno. Esto dio origen a la principal costumbre de la festividad, que es la de encender, en forma progresiva, un candelabro de nueve brazos llamado januquiá (uno por cada uno de los días más un brazo «piloto»).

La festividad acontece el 25 de Kislev del calendario judío, fecha que acaece entre fines de noviembre y principios de diciembre del calendario gregoriano. Este año, Hanukkah se celebra desde el atardecer del 2 de diciembre al anochecer del 10 de diciembre.

For this reason, we have prepared a list for you with the best and most important events that will be taking place in the city to celebrate the holidays. These are:

* CHRISTMAS AT GRACELAND: Present – January 8, 2019

Enjoy Christmas at Graceland exactly as the king did. Graceland will be celebrating Christmas from now until January 8, 2019.

Besides being able to see the Christmas decorations in the mansion and its gardens, Elvis Presley Enterprises has also organized the “Holiday Concert Weekend at Graceland” (Dec. 14 and Dec.15). This is a series of three festive live concerts at the Graceland Sound Stage at Graceland’s new Elvis Presley’s Memphis entertainment complex.

* SUNTRUST ZOO LIGHTS: Present – December 30, 2018

Take the whole family to the Memphis Zoo at night to greet Santa Claus, skate on ice and enjoy a wide variety of beautiful ornaments and Christmas lights. You will also be able to see some of the animals.

SunTrust Zoo Lights has become an annual tradition for families in Memphis. Not only that, it is also an event that has been recognized for being one of the top 20 best holiday zoo lights displays in the country, according to USA Today. You’ll see snow in the Courtyard, the return of the 90-foot, LED Ferris wheel, Santa in his shop, live reindeer, thousands of LED holiday lights and much more.

* STARRY NIGHTS: November 22, 2018 – December 28, 2018

Being the largest holiday light show and festival in the city, “Starry Nights” has become a Christmas tradition for many families in the Mid-South. The extensive display of illuminated figures, along with a wide variety of entertainment available for both adults and children, makes the occasion suitable for everyone, without exception, to feel the magic of the Christmas spirit. And this year, it will come with more surprises and activities than ever, including a half-mile walking path along Hyde Lake featuring additional Christmas lights, a Build-a-Bear Workshop, the Candy Cane Train, and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus.

The FedEx Mistletoe Village, located at the First Tennessee Foundation Visitor Center, will also be part of this event. Here, everyone can take their pictures with Santa (packages starting at $25), visit the small petting zoo, buy souvenirs, drink a delicious hot chocolate and even listen to live holiday music with carolers. In addition, there will be camel and pony rides, carriage rides, food trucks, and more. The Mistletoe Village is open nightly during Starry Nights as well as daytime hours on Saturdays and Sundays: 10 AM – 4 PM.

This year’s Christmas celebration at the Memphis Botanic Garden is bigger and brighter than ever, with four attractions in one place: “Snowy Nights at the Garden,” “Trees Alight at the Garden,” “Under the Stars at the Garden”, and “City of Memphis Christmas Tree at the Garden.”

“Snowy Nights” is designed to give everyone in the family the opportunity to enjoy the winter weather and celebrate the holiday season with light displays, Christmas activities, arts and crafts, and lots of interactive fun. There is always “snow” in My Big Backyard, even if Mother Nature does not supply it.

“Trees Alight” is a great 360-degree multimedia LED light show, with synchronized Christmas music, that will take place this year in the Iris Garden highlighting even the tallest trees in the botanic garden

“Under the Stars at the Garden”, is a cozy location filled with welcoming couches, fire tables and holiday spirits. The lounge will be located in the heart of “Holiday Wonders at the Garden” and will have easy access to “Trees Alight” and “Snowy Nights.” There will be food and adult beverages, along with a holiday cheer that will fill the space.

“City of Memphis Christmas Tree at the Garden” is an 80’ tall Contorted White Pine and is the Botanic Garden’s gift to the City of Memphis and the broader community. It is easily seen from Cherry Road when driving by the garden.

 * HANUKKAH (CHANUKAH): Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire. Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar. It is also known as the Festival of Lights and the Feast of Dedication. This year it is celebrated from December 2 to December 10.
