Nearly 200 children killed in war in Ukraine, says Kyiv

Kyiv, Apr 13 (EFE).- The number of children killed as a result of the war in Ukraine now sits at 191, according to figures released Wednesday by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

“As of the morning of April 13, 2022, more than 540 children were affected in Ukraine as a result of Russia’s armed aggression. In particular, 191 children were killed and more than 349 were injured,” the office said on Telegram.

Most of the victims (113) were in the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine, partially occupied by Russian troops.

This was followed by the regions of Kyiv (102), Kharkiv (79), Chernihiv (54), Mykolaiv (40), Kherson (38), Luhansk (36), Zaporizhia (23), Sumy (16), Zhytomyr (15), and the city of Kyiv (16).

The prosecutor’s office also reported the discovery of the burned bodies of a 16-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy in the cities of Borodyanka and Korolivka in Kyiv region.

According to figures from Unicef, two thirds of Ukrainian children have had to leave their homes because of the war. This represents some 2.8 million out of a total of 7.5 million Ukrainians under the age of 18, including internally displaced persons and those who have left the country, alone or accompanied. EFE
