SUV with explosives found near home of richest Indian

New Delhi, Feb 26 (efe-epa).- Police in Mumbai on Friday said they were investigating a security scare over an abandoned car that was found with explosives and a terse note near the home of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in India.

“We found the vehicle that was checked by the bomb disposal squad. We found some gelatine explosives substances inside it,” Deputy Commissioner of Police S Chaitanya told EFE.

Chaitanya said police also found a handwritten letter in the vehicle, addressed to the businessman. He, however, avoided giving details about the content of the note.

Regional Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh said 20 gelatin explosives sticks were found in the Scorpio car near Ambani’s residence.

“The police is investigating the matter and the findings will be out soon,” Deshmukh said on Twitter.

The Mumbai Police did not provide more details and said they were are currently unaware of the possible motive behind the security scare.

The vehicle was found on Carmichael Road, one of the most luxurious neighborhoods in the financial capital of Mumbai, where Ambani lives with his family in their 27-floor Antilia.

It is one of the world’s largest and most luxurious private homes with helipads, a 50-seat theater, and a parking area for more than 150 vehicles.

Ambani is the president of the Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries, parent of the telephone company Jio.

His estimated net worth is more than $81 billion, according to the latest data from Forbes, making him the wealthiest in India.

The Jio company began offering its mobile connection services in September 2016, following Ambani’s decision to also enter the telecom market.

His conglomerate Reliance Industries also has interests in petrochemicals, oil and gas, and retail.

Since then, it has managed to gain the leadership of the mobile phone and data services market in India, with more than 350 million customers, thanks to an aggressive advertising policy and the price war unleashed on its competitors. EFE-EPA
