Hong Kong police arrest young man injured in 2019 protests

Beijing, Jul 14 (EFE).- Hong Kong police arrested four people aged 16 to 23, including Tsang Chi-kin, a young man shot in the chest during protests that hit the semi-autonomous city in 2019, local press reported Thursday.

The group was arrested Wednesday night at a bus station while allegedly preparing to flee to Taiwan. They are expected to be brought to court later today.

During anti-government protests that rocked the city in 2019 and saw Beijing tighten its grip on the former British colony, Tsang was shot in the chest at close range by a police officer who was coming to the aid of a colleague who was being attacked.

After the incidents, Tsang was charged with participating in the riots and two counts of assaulting the police.

In October 2020, he appeared in court, along with a failed asylum application at the United States consulate, before an arrest warrant was issued against him after he disappeared in December of the same year. EFE
