Iraq, Egypt, Jordan call on Israel for efforts to achieve peace

Baghdad, Jun 27 (EFE).- Leaders of Iraq, Jordan and Egypt on Sunday called on Israel to make efforts to establish peace with Palestine.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi, King Abdullah II of Jordan and Egyptian President Abdelfatah al-Sisi made the appeal after their historic summit held in Iraq.

Al-Sisi became the first Egyptian president to visit Baghdad since the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait three decades ago.

The leaders called on Israel to “stop all measures that undermine the chances of achieving a just peace” with Palestine, according to a joint statement.

Israel should not alter the “historical and legal status of Jerusalem. and its Islamic and Christian holy places,” the statement read.

The leaders also committed their governments to strengthening the security coordination and sharing intelligence information with an eye toward fighting terror and organized crime.

They also discussed ways to connect the electrical infrastructures of their three nations and route a gas pipeline between Iraq and Egypt through Jordan “to enable the export of Iraqi oil” through other commercial channels.
