Newcastle humiliate Tottenham 6-1
Sports Desk, Apr 23 (EFE).- Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak scored two goals each during a manic first half as Newcastle hammered Tottenham Hotspur 6-1 at St James Park on Sunday.
Joelinton also scored to put the Magpies three goals up with under nine minutes played, and with only 21 minutes on the clock, they had put five past the helpless Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal.
Harry Kane pulled a goal back shortly after half time, as Tottenham suggested they might at least be able to make the score line respectable.
But they failed to put anything meaningful together, and Newcastle restored their five-goal advantage through substitute Callum Wilson with 25 minutes left to play.
Needing a win to boost their hope of qualifying for the Champions League next season, fifth-placed Tottenham came into this clash of top-four hopefuls off the back of a bitterly disappointing defeat at home to relegation-threatened Bournemouth.
Spurs have not seen a response on the pitch since sacking manager Antonio Conte last month, replacing him with the Italian’s assistant Cristian Stellini.
This damaging loss leaves them six points outside of the Champions League spots, having played two games more than fourth-placed Manchester United, while Newcastle continue their excellent season in third place. EFE
