Racial Slurs Spray-Painted on Southaven Couple’s Vehicles

SOUTHAVEN, MS (LPL/WREG) — Una pareja afroamericana de Southaven dijo que se despertaron el martes por la mañana para encontrar graffiti racista pintado en dos de sus vehículos.

La policía de Southaven confirmó que están investigando el vandalismo denunciado en Marcia Louise Drive, y el FBI también está investigando el asunto.

La camioneta de la pareja tiene dos graffiti N ****** pintados con spray. Se pintó un automóvil con la frase ‘Leave N ******’ y ‘Trump’.

“Esto tuvo que ser desconcertante para que una familia tranquila saliera a sus autos y viera lo que vieron allí”, dijo el vecino Pastor Vincent McCaskil.

La pareja no quería hablar con el noticiario sobre lo que sucedió y tampoco lo hicieron la mayoría de sus vecinos, pero McCaskill dijo que no podía permanecer en silencio.

“Es hora de que nosotros, como creyentes de hablar honestamente y hablemos en contra”, dijo. “No podemos permanecer en silencio en este tema”.

La policía dice muy poco sobre su investigación, pero McCaskill dijo que quien está detrás de los mensajes de odio no pudo cumplir su objetivo que probablemente pretendía.

“Sé quién soy y, por lo tanto, confía en mí, las palabras en esos autos no son lo que soy, así que no me ofende ni me conmueve”, dijo. “Conocemos a nuestros vecinos, hablamos con nuestros vecinos, es una comunidad muy diversa, ya sabes, así que no creo que esto sea algo de la comunidad”.

SOUTHAVEN, MS (WREG) — An African-American Southaven couple said they woke up Tuesday morning to find racist graffiti had been spray-painted on two of their vehicles.

Southaven Police confirmed they are investigating the reported vandalism on Marcia Louise Drive, and the FBI is also looking into the matter.

The couple’s pickup truck has two N****** spray-painted on it. A car was painted with the phrase ‘Leave N******’ and ‘Trump.’

“This had to be unnerving for a quiet family to come out to their cars and see what they saw there,” neighbor Pastor Vincent McCaskil said.

The couple didn’t want to speak with WREG about what happened and neither did most of their neighbors, but McCaskill said he couldn’t stay silent.

“It’s time for us as believers to truly speak up and speak out against it,” he said. “We cannot remain silent against this.”

Police are saying very little about their investigation, but McCaskill said whoever is behind the hateful messages failed to cause the offense they likely intended.

“I know who I am, and so, trust me, the words on those cars is not who I am, so I am in no way offended or moved by it,” he said. “We know our neighbors, we talk to our neighbors, a very diverse community, you know, so I don’t think this is an indictment of the community.”
