Nuñez, Gakpo, Salah each score 2 in Liverpool’s 7-0 destruction of Man United

London, Mar 5 (EFE).- Liverpool crushed Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, romping to a 7-0 result and all but ending the visitors’ chances of getting into the Premier League title race, given that they are 14 points behind powerhouse league leader Arsenal.

Strikers Darwin Nuñez and Cody Gakpo each plumped for two goals, while Mohammed Salah also scored a brace, although his noteworthy tallies made him the side’s record scorer in League action, the second goal being his 129th.

Six of the goals came in the second half, with three of the strikes coming within just seven minutes of playing time both before and after the intermission and finally Roberto Firmino, who will be retiring from the club this summer, scored the late twine-tickler after coming off the bench.

The win was Liverpool’s biggest in the side’s entire history, all 211 matches of it, and manager Jurgen Klopp called the victory “spectacular” after the dust had settled.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest and Everton battled to 2-2 draw at the City Ground stadium, but the match was an exciting one with considerable action from both squads the length and breadth of the pitch, even though both teams are in danger of relegation.

Although Everton got out in front twice before the break on tallies by Demarai Gray knocking in a penalty kick and a header by Abdoulaye Doucoure after another penalty kick, Nottingham gritted its teeth and came back twice in fine form – both times on goals by Brennan Johnson, the first coming before the intermission and the second one being a lovely strike 10 minutes from time.

The final result in the thrilling back-and-forth match puts Nottingham Forest four points clear of relegation but without a win in their last four matches, while Everton are below the relegation line with just 22 points.
