Kevin Spacey granted unconditional bail at sexual assault hearing
London, Jun 16 (EFE).- Kevin Spacey was granted unconditional bail Thursday after appearing at a London court to face four sexual assault charges.
The 62-year-old Hollywood star arrived at the Westminster Magistrates Court in London, where he confirmed his identity, his date of birth and his London address at the preliminary hearing.
Judge Tan Ikram granted the actor unconditional bail ahead of his next appearance at Southwark Crown Court on July 14.
He listened to the judge from the dock with a neutral expression, glancing occasionally towards the large group of journalists reporting from the London courtroom.
During Thursday’s hearing, prosecutor Natalie Dawson requested Spacey should be bailed on the condition of surrendering his travel documents and passport to ensure the American actor does not leave the United Kingdom.
However, defense lawyer, Patrick Gibbs, argued that the actor needed to leave the UK for work reasons and that both his family and 9-year-old dog lived in the United States.
The lawyer added that the actor “strenuously” denies all the charges and recalled that Spacey had fully collaborated with the police during investigations and was willing to continue doing so.
Spacey voluntarily surrendered to the UK police and denies the four charges of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent, allegedly committed against three men between 2005 and 2013 while Spacey was artistic director of the Old Vic theatre in London.EFE
