Oscars’ red carpet a diverse, bright and bold affair

Culture Desk, Apr 25 (EFE).- This year’s most anticipated fashion show – the Oscar’ red carpet – was the smallest but the most diverse and colorful.
Colman Domingo’s fuchsia sequined Versace suit stood out Sunday as an example of the red carpet’s bold pops of color, as did Amanda Seyfried’s red Armani tulle gown and Carey Mulligan’s dazzling gold crop top and skirt by Valentino.
A parade of haute couture designs, tuxedos and jewelry took place at the historic Union Station in Los Angeles, a stage decorated with Art Deco elements and Spanish colonial style in which Leslie Odom Jr. also drew attention, turning up in a double-breasted, reportedly 24-karat gold silk Brioni suit.
Lakeith Stanfield also turned heads in a black Yves Saint Laurent jumpsuit created by Anthony Vaccarello.
Despite the Oscars being a limited affair with only nominees and presenters present, there was no lack of glamor this year, including Regina King’s baby blue Louis Vuitton dress adorned with 4,000 crystal stones and 62,000 sequins during 140 hours of work.
Andra Day went for gold with an asymmetrical cutout design by Vera Wang. Gold was also chosen by director and producer Martin Desmond, whose suit featured the names of Black American victims of police violence in the lining, as did his colleague Travon Free.
The youngest actor on the carpet, 9-year-old Alan Kim, appeared in a suit jacket, shorts and knee-high socks upon his arrival at Union Station, where the awards gala was held.
Angela Bassett left the audience speechless with a dramatic red Alberta Ferretti dress with a huge bow on the back, while Margot Robbie, producer of “Promising Young Woman,” opted for a silver Chanel floral dress.
Zendaya shone with a custom bright yellow design by Valentino and an extraordinary diamond choker, while Italian singer Laura Pausini arrived in a black off-the-shoulder Valentino dress, switching to a gold tuxedo for her rooftop performance, and the most nominated African American in history, Viola Davis, opted for a stunning white fitted Alexander McQueen cut-out gown.
For this first in-person gala since the beginning of the pandemic, two women vied for the best director: Emerald Fennell, who opted for a green and pink printed Gucci chiffon dress with ruffles and embroidery, and Chloé Zhao, with her hair in two braids, wearing a neutral-colored beaded Hermes dress with white trainers.
Some of the gala presenters also stood out. Reese Witherspoon chose a two-tone pleated red and maroon Christian Dior halter-neck design, Laura Dern opted for the elegance of a black turtle-neck top with a full white feather skirt, and Halle Berry wore a strapless mauve chiffon Dolce & Gabbana dress with a bow at the waist.
Glenn Close attended for the eighth time as an Oscar nominee, wearing an indigo blue Armani Privé tunic and pants with rhinestones and gloves. EFE
