Over 20 people injured in Ibiza ferry accident

Ibiza, Aug 29 (EFE).- A ten year old boy in critical condition was evacuated Sunday to a hospital in Mallorca after a ferry connecting the Balearic islands of Ibiza and Formentera hit an islet.

The accident occurred at around 9:55 pm on Saturday evening when a ferry with 48 people on board struck one of the Es Malvins islets near the Ibiza port.

Nine people were severely injured and evacuated by helicopter to the Can Misses hospital in Ibiza.

A rescue ship transferred the rest of the passengers and crew back to the port.

Another 16 people were brought to hospital for minor injuries.

The boy, who suffered more serious injuries, was evacuated to the Balearics main hospital, Son Espases, in Mallorca. EFE
