Youtuber, rally legend Ken Block dies in snowmobile accident
Madrid, January 3 (EFE).- Legendary rally driver, Kenneth Block, has died aged 55, after a fatal snowmobile accident in the US state of Utah, his team confirmed Tuesday.
“Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed,” Hoonigan Industries, a clothing company he owned, said in a statement on Instagram.
The rally driver, who rose to fame with his “Gymkhana” video series on YouTube, died on January 2 after his motorcycle overturned and fell onto him in the Mill Hollow area in Park City, Utah, the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The driver was on a steep slope at the time of the accident at approximately 2 pm.
“He was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident,” the statement said.
The American competitive rally driver, who had recently signed with Audi, carried out a demonstration in an electric car through the streets of Las Vegas a couple of months ago which earned him almost 6 million views online.
Block competed at the Global RallyCross Championship from 2011 to 2015 and secured several podium finishes.
However, he shot to fame as a YouTuber where he staged daring stunts and racked up nearly 2 million subscribers. EFE
