UN: 10 million displaced by war in Ukraine

Geneva, Mar 20 (EFE).- At least 10 million Ukrainians have been displaced, either internally or abroad, by Russia’s invasion of the country, the United Nations refugee agency said on Sunday.

“Among the responsibilities of those who wage war, everywhere in the world, is the suffering inflicted on civilians who are forced to flee their homes,” UNHCR Filippo Grandi wrote on Twitter.

Some 3.4 million people of Ukraine’s population of 44 million have fled to neighboring countries since the war began on February 24, according to the latest UN figures.

Most of the Ukrainians fleeing have headed to Poland, where over 2 million have arrived so far.

Romania has registered 527,000 arrivals from Ukraine, and Moldova has recorded 362,000 entries.

Some 305,000 have crossed into Hungary, while 245,000 into Slovakia.

Another 184,000 people have made it into Russia and about 2,500 into Belarus, according to UNHCR.EFE
