Three Palestinians killed, 40 injured in Israeli West Bank raid

Jerusalem, Aug 9 (EFE).- Three Palestinians have been killed and 40 others wounded as Israeli forces conducted a raid in the West Bank city of Nablus, Israeli and Palestinian officials said Tuesday.

Among those killed was Ibrahim Nabulsi, a senior commander of al-Aqsa Martyr’s Brigades group, the military wing of the Fatah political movement, which controls the West Bank-ruling Palestinian National Authority.

“Palestinian terrorist Ibrahim Al-Nabulsi was suspected of carrying out shooting attacks on civilians & IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) soldiers in the Nablus area,” the Israeli military wrote in a Twitter post.

“This morning, Israeli security forces conducted a counterterrorist operation to neutralize him,” it added.

The Palestinian ministry of health identified the other two victims as Islam Sabbouh and Hussein Jamal Taha, whose affiliation with an armed group has not been confirmed yet.

Israeli soldiers surrounded a residential building in Nablus, the one Nabulsi was hiding inside, and where gunmen fired at troops, sparking a shootout.

During the raid, dozens of Palestinians threw stones and explosive devices at Israeli troops, who used riot dispersal means and live ammunition.

Four of the 40 wounded are in critical condition, the Palestinian health ministry said.

The Israeli security agency, known as the Shin Bet, and the military said that a large number of explosive devices and other weapons were found in the building, where Nabulsi was killed.

The Israeli military intelligence had believed Nabulsi was killed during an operation in February that left three people killed, but later the commander was seen attending their funeral.EFE
