Palestinian man killed by Israeli forces after alleged stabbing attack

Jerusalem, Apr 12 (EFE).- A Palestinian man was killed by Israeli police after allegedly stabbing an officer in the Israeli city of Ashkelon, police reported Tuesday, as tensions between Israel and Palestinian territories have soared in recent days.

Police said the man “pulled out a knife and attacked the officer” during a security check.

The officer, in response, “shot and neutralized” the Palestinian, who was from the city of Hebron in the southern part of the West Bank, the police wrote on Twitter.

The incident took place on a construction site during an operation to arrest Palestinians from the occupied West Bank working in Israel without a permit, according to local media reports.

Tensions in the region have been extremely high after four fatal attacks by Palestinians left some 14 Israelis dead in just two weeks, prompting the Israeli army to tighten security in the West Bank.

Israeli forces killed four Palestinians in the West Bank between Sunday and Monday, following a shooting attack in Tel Aviv that left three people dead on Thursday.EFE
