Jerusalem, Jun 1 (EFE).- Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian woman on Wednesday after she approached a soldier while holding a knife in the occupied West Bank, the Israeli military said.
“An assailant armed with a knife advanced toward an IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) soldier who was conducting routine security activity on Route 60. The soldiers responded with live fire,” it said.
The Palestinian health ministry confirmed the woman, identified as Ghofran Haroun, had died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said that the Israeli troops at first prevented medical personnel from providing medical attention to the woman.
“She was handed over to the medical teams about 20 minutes later,” a spokesperson for the Palestinian Red Crescent pointed out.
The 31-year-old woman spent three months in jail before she was released in April
The incident comes amid a flare-up in violence in the region that started in late March.
Some 40 Palestinian have been killed in Israeli arrest operations and clashes since the end of March.EFE
