Activists rally in London against planned euthanizing of alpaca
London, Aug 9 (EFE).- Dozens of activists on Monday gathered in central London against a controversial court order to kill an alpaca that has tested positive for tuberculosis twice.
The protesters marched from the headquarters of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs until the prime minister’s residence to call for the decision to be rectified.
The Macdonald farm, which imported the animal from New Zealand in 2017, claims that the tests are not accurate and give false positives.
Therefore, they consider there is not enough evidence to end the alpaca’s life.
Last week, the farm lost a long legal battle in which it says it had spent 80,000 pounds defending the animal.
The farm, located in the eastern English county of Gloucestershire, awaits a visit by the person tasked with sacrificing the animal.
Several activists have formed a human wall to protect the animal ahead of the imminent visit by the authorities, Dominic Dyer, from Born Free Foundation, told Efe.
Over 100,000 people have signed an online petition to save the eight-year-old animal. EFE
