Obras de arte de estudiantes en exhibición en el Aeropuerto Internacional de Memphis

High School Students’ Artwork on Display at Memphis International Airport

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/WMC) — Pinturas creadas por estudiantes de las escuelas secundarias del Condado de Shelby ahora están en exhibición en el Aeropuerto Internacional de Memphis.

“Este es un concurso que organizamos en el condado de Shelby. Queremos ver a los mejores artistas de nuestros estudiantes y queremos exhibirlos aquí en el aeropuerto”, dijo Glen Thomas, del Aeropuerto Internacional de Memphis.

Se enviaron cerca de 300 pinturas y fotografías, y 60 se colgarán dentro de la terminal del aeropuerto.

“Memphis Trinity” de Lanyce Williams con Aretha Franklin, BB King y Elvis Presley ganó el 1er lugar.

“Todo el propósito de hacer esto fue respetar a esos maravillosos artistas para tenerlos exhibidos aquí en el aeropuerto y que la gente tenga la oportunidad de verlos, es una gran sensación”, dijo Williams.

“Creo que es una gran oportunidad para celebrar la cultura de Memphis, así como para destacar a los estudiantes que trabajan duro y tienen talento”, dijo la maestra de arte Amy-Beth Rice.

Rice está hablando de estudiantes como Alex Tauverschmidt, quien se sorprendió por su victoria.

Este es el año 12 del programa. El tema del concurso de este año fue Memphis: música, imágenes y sonidos.

“Es una de las únicas competiciones que tenemos donde realmente podemos vender sus obras de arte a personas de todo el país, así que es realmente genial”, dijo la asesora de artes visuales de SCS, Kelly Hatton.

Las pinturas de los estudiantes de están a la venta.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — Paintings created by Shelby County high school students are now on display at the Memphis International Airport.

“This is a contest we put on in Shelby County we want to see the best of our student artists and we want to put them on display here at the airport,” Glen Thomas with the Memphis International Airport said.

Nearly 300 paintings and photographs were submitted, and 60 will hang inside the airport terminal.

Lanyce Williams’ “Memphis Trinity” featuring Aretha Franklin, BB King and Elvis Presley won 1st place.

“The whole purpose of me doing this was to pay respect to those wonderful artist so to have it hanging up here in the airport and have people have the opportunity to see them it’s like a great feeling,” Williams said.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for us to celebrate Memphis culture as well as put a spotlight on the students who work so hard and are so talented,” art teacher Amy-Beth Rice said.

Rice is talking about students like Alex Tauverschmidt who was surprised by her win.

This is the program’s 12th year. The theme for this year’s contest was Memphis – it’s music, sights and sounds.

“It’s one of the only competitions that we have where it’s really like they get to sell their artwork to people from all over the country so it’s really great,” SCS visual arts advisor Kelly Hatton said.
