Giuliani ordered to testify in Georgia grand jury Trump probe

Washington, Jul 20 (EFE).- A New York judge has ordered Rudy Giuliani to appear before a special grand jury in Georgia that is investigating whether former president Donald Trump interfered in the 2020 general election in the state, according to court documents released Wednesday.

Giuliani, Trump’s former personal lawyer and ex-New York City mayor, will have to appear in Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, on Aug. 9.

The order comes after he failed to appear at a hearing in New York, where he lives, about challenging a subpoena he had been issued earlier this month.

Giuliani, who was one of Trump’s main supporters during his term, took the lead in judicial attempts to annul the results of the presidential election, which was won by Democrat Joe Biden.

Earlier this year, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis formally requested the creation of a grand jury to collect evidence and investigate whether Trump and others interfered in the November 2020 presidential election in Georgia, a battleground state.

The investigation runs parallel to that carried out by a committee of the Lower House, which over the past few weeks has held several public hearings with witnesses who have testified about Trump’s efforts to overturn the election and about his actions around the assault on the Capitol in January 2021.
