Perez calls Real legends Casillas, Raul “biggest frauds” in leaked clips

Madrid, Jul 13 (EFE).- Real Madrid president Florentino Perez called former striker Raul Gonzalez and former goalkeeper Iker Casillas the “biggest frauds” in the club’s storied history in an audio file recorded in 2006 that was leaked to the Spanish press on Tuesday.

The recording was made after Perez had left his first stint as president, before he returned as president in 2009.

“Casillas is not good enough to be the goalkeeper for Real Madrid, what do you want me to say?” Perez said after leaving the club presidency in the audio file published by El Confidencial.

“He is one of the big frauds of Madrid. The second is Raul. The two biggest frauds at Madrid are first Raul and then Casillas,” he added.

Casillas, who spent 16 years in Real Madrid’s first team, is currently the club’s ambassador, while Raul, who was also part of the Galacticos squad in the early to mid-2000s, is the coach of the club’s reserve team, Real Madrid Castilla.

Perez blamed the leaked audio to the recent failed breakaway continental Super League, which Perez played a major role in promoting.

“The published quotes were part of conversations secretly recorded by Mr José Antonio Abellán, who has been trying to sell the recordings for many years without any success,” Perez said in a statement.

“I find it surprising that they have been published today by El Confidencial, despite the time that has elapsed,” he said, adding that it “owes to my involvement as one of the driving forces behind the Super League.”

Perez said he would be contacting his lawyers to explore his legal options. EFE
