India’s prime minister arrives in Germany to attend G7 Summit

New Delhi, Jun 26 (EFE).- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Germany on Sunday to participate in the summit of the Group of Seven (G7) nations where India is one of the invited countries.

The G7 is a grouping of the seven most developed countries and consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

“Landed in Munich to participate in the G-7 Summit. I look forward to fruitful discussions with world leaders during the Summit,” announced Modi on Twitter.

The G7 Summit is to be held in the Bavarian capital at the Castle Elmau Hotel between Jun.26-28.

India is one of the five countries invited to participated in this year’s summit, along with Argentina, Indonesia, Senegal and South Africa.

“During the sessions of the Summit, I will be exchanging views (…) on topical issues such as environment, energy, climate, food security, health, counter-terrorism, gender equality and democracy,” the Indian prime minister said in a statement before leaving from New Delhi.

“While in Germany, I also look forward to meeting members of the Indian Diaspora from across Europe, who are contributing immensely to their local economies as also enriching our relations with European countries,” he added.

The Indian leader is also expected to use the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with some of the leaders of the participating countries.

This is the second official visit made by Modi to the European country. On May 2, he participated in the 6th India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations.

The conflict in Ukraine will be the focus of discussions at the summit, on which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will make a virtual address on Monday.

On his return from Germany, the Modi is expected stop on Tuesday in the United Arab Emirates to express his condolences on the passing of the former head of state Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan last month and meet his son and successor, Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan. EFE
