Lima, Dec 29 (EFE).- A group of Peruvian shamans and healers joined forces on Wednesday in a mystic and traditional ritual, including an offering to “Pachamama” (Mother Earth), asking the forces of nature to make 2022 the year in which the Covid-19 pandemic ends.
On San Cristobal hill, the most sacred promontory in Lima in pre-Hispanic times, the shamans and healers gathered, coming from the country’s coastal areas, the Andean sierra and the Amazon jungle with their different methods of calling for prosperity in the coming year.
“We’re gathered together asking Father Sun, Mother Earth, Mother Water and Father Air to definitively end all this chaos that has caused so much pain and sadness all over the planet,” shaman Felix Rondan, from the Andean Ancash region, told EFE.
They sprinkled seeds and flower petals over the ground in a circle with the number 2022 inside it, directing all their offerings – including the sacred coca leaf, a plant highly-venerated by pre-Hispanic civilizations and still used today in these kind of rituals – there.
They also poured “chicha de jora” – a beverage made from fermented corn that is frequently used by the descendants of the Incas in their most special ceremonies – over the improvised altar.
When the ritual was finished, Ronadn said that he definitely felt that the Covid-19 pandemic will recede in 2022 although not during the first few months, because “there are still going to be difficulties since there are different types (of variants).”
The shamans not only focused on the Covid-19 pandemic but also undertook a ceremony to “clean” the negativity from international relations, especially the current tension between Russia and Ukraine, with Moscow having deployed tens of thousands of troops on the mutual border, a move that many Western analysts say may be the prelude to an invasion in the coming weeks.
That ceremony involved the shamans smoking and pouring their elixirs over photos of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and also US President Joe Biden, who they said was the key to deescalating the tension in this dispute.
“It’s going to be a very favorable year for all countries. There’s going to be a very good advance in health and the conflicts are going to diminish. There is going to be peace and tranquility, and good health for everyone,” healer Andres De los Santos predicted for EFE.
“The economy has been strongly impacted, but we’re going to move out of it. The United States is going to be the main leader giving a push to everyone else,” he added.
The shamans also did not forget the Peruvian national soccer team in their efforts, using all their divining arts to set things up for the team to qualify for the Qatar World Cup in 2022, just as they had done prior to Peru’s historic qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
This group of shamans and healers is well-known for joining together on special occasions to prognosticate and prophecy at key moments on national and international matters, as they did recently to predict the Biden’s election triumph in the US and Pedro Castillo’s in Peru.
