Israel confirms 140 deaths, 600 arrests in 72 hours at Shifa hospital

Jerusalem, March 21 (EFE).- More than 140 alleged Palestinian militias have been killed and around 600 others arrested in the three days of incursion into the Al Shifa hospital in Gaza City, the Israeli army said in a statement Thursday.

Around 250 of those arrested have been identified as members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad extremist groups.

The army statement said that more than 50 “terrorists” had been killed in exchanges of fire in the last few hours and weapons warehouses were located.

Since the start of the operation, more than 140 terrorists have been killed in the hospital area, the statement added.

The Israeli operation continues in what is the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip, according to the army, which claimed that their actions were precise and avoided causing harm to civilians, patients and medical equipment.

The army said it had provided 1,800 liters of water and 3.8 tonnes of humanitarian food aid to civilians sheltered inside the hospital.

However, Palestinian sources reported that since last Monday there have been many trapped and hungry families inside the hospital.

Moreover, they claimed that on Thursday morning the Israeli army bombed the specialized surgery building, where the largest pharmacy in the Gaza Strip was located.

“All X-ray imaging and magnetic resonance imaging equipment were destroyed after today’s bombing of the specialized surgery building,” Palestinian officials told EFE.

The officials also said that Israeli soldiers were also attacking “any moving object or person in the streets, homes and shops” with tanks near Al Shifa hospital, where communications have been cut off since Monday.

For its part, the Israeli army reported that another alleged 20 Palestinian fighters were killed in the last hours in central Gaza, where it has conducted most of its military operations for more than three months.

It has also continued its military offensive in the Qarara area, north of Khan Younis, a Hamas stronghold in the south of the enclave, where “dozens of terrorist infrastructures,” were identified and destroyed, according to the military statement.

A total 31,988 have been killed and 74,188 wounded due to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, while an estimated 7,000 remain under the rubble, after 167 days of war in the Palestinian enclave, according to the latest data from the Hamas-controlled Gazan Ministry of Health. EFE
