Pharmaceutical industry expects there will be Covid jabs for everyone in 2022

Geneva, Sep 7 (EFE).- The global production of Covid-19 vaccine jabs is expected to reach 24 billion doses by June 2022, sufficient to immunize all adults around the world, global drug industry group IFPMA estimated Tuesday.

The International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations said it hopes that even at the beginning of next year, there will be enough vaccines manufactured “for every adult on every continent.”

These calculations will be met only “if there are no major bottlenecks” in vaccine production lines, said the IFPMA, adding that inoculating all adults would require a more equitable vaccine distribution.

After initial hiccups in vaccine distribution, some 1.5 billion doses are now being produced per month, which, according to the IFPMA, has been achieved thanks to an increase in production, supply chain improvements, and voluntary technology transfer agreements.

The IFPMA said that some 1.2 billion vaccine doses will have been distributed to developing countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that 80% of the vaccines had gone to high and middle-income countries and now is pushing to vaccinate at least 10% of the population in poorer countries. EFE
